Helicopter crashes into Lagos residential building

A yet-to-be-identified helicopter has crashed in the Opebi area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the copter dropped from the sky around 12 noon at the Salvation Bus Stop in Opebi.

No casualty or death has, however, been reported as of the time of filing this report.

Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Nosa Okunbor, confirmed the incident to our correspondent in a telephone conversation.

“Yes, it just happened. The helicopter crashed in Opebi around 12pm. LASEMA operatives are on our way to the incident site. I’ll give you more updates,” he said.

The Acting Coordinator of Lagos Territorial Office of National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, was quoted by Daily Sun as saying that two persons have been confirmed dead while one was rescued alive.

The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, also confirmed the death of two people, adding that one person had been admitted into the Intensive Care Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

Oke-Osanyintolu said, “The agency received distress calls concerning a privately operated helicopter that crashed into 16A Salvation Road, Opebi, Ikeja and immediately activated the emergency response plan.

“The helicopter was carrying three people, one is in the intensive care unit at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, while the other two were killed on impact and their bodies have been deposited in a mortuary. We are on top of challenges, especially crowd control. The operation is ongoing and updates will follow.”
